HPRA UPDATE FEB2020


...For lent we have another HPRA regulatory update. Please check your LAPBRU-USERS folder to get all the details or check your inbox with the circulated mail with the relevant attachemnt.
In summary....

  1. Without naming and shaming the HPRA has provided stats on non-compliance's trends and the most common causes. Live and learn!
  2. A reminder that the statistical returns are due has been included intros update given the time of the year.
  3. The National Committee has been quite proactive and has published guidelines for the named information officer and his/her training requirements. The NC is now busy organising a National 3R training event for the 17th of September. Keep the date free for networking and exchanging valuable practical information relevant to our roles.
  4. European Commission updates:
    1. Reports: 5-year report on implementing Dir 10/63/EU and Stast on animal use from 2015-2017.
    2. New ECVAM 3Rs resources to promote the uptake of alternatives and validation methods to in-vivo research.
  5. AWB Tasks:
    1. The HPRA has issued a reminder of the legal obligation of sharing tissues and of the existence of AniMatch
    2. The HPRA encourages proactive participation of the AWB in minimising severe suffering including a few suggestions on how.
  6. CULTURE OF CARE: Updates in Norecopa website, bench marking culture of care are the two main focus points included in this update.
  7. ANNEX III: The HPRA alerts and reminds researchers using farm animals of the importance to keep stocking densities compliant.
  8. ANIMAL STUDIES REGISTRIES: The HPRA strongly encourages that researchers register their studies in these registries outlining the aim of the study, the hypothesis, the experimental strategy and the analytical plans to avoid cherry-picking of findings and counter publication bias.
  9. CONTINUOUS TRAINING AND EDUCATION: the HPRA expects that each IA holder completes 8 hours/year, 40 hours in 5 years.
