ILASA (Irish Laboratory Animal Science Association) met the IMB

ILASA has met the IMB to raise some issues that came to the association's attention. These are some that you might find interesting and useful:

  1. The IMB has acknowledged the benefits of inter-institutional training and they are looking into how this provision could be reflected in the authorization.
  2. Visiting scientists could perform training in our user establishments if the training that they have is one acknowledged by NUI Galway and if they inform the IMB with at least a weeks notice regarding the period of training, protocols and purpose.
  3. Technical staff require individual authorizations to perform euthanasia unless they are working under existing CAA 1876 Act licenses.
  4. The statistical returns form will have a new format in 2014
  5. The cost of the authorizations is still under discussion, although they will be implemented from 2014.
  6. The IMB is aware that the application forms are not yet perfect or very user friendly but they are working on improving them
