IMB June Update

The IMB has sent an update alerting stakeholders of the new up-to-date application forms for project, authorization, individual authorization, pject authorization amendment and out of scope. The IMB also encourages users to submit application via the secure portal CESP.

The IMB will upload the first group of non-technical project summary reports to their website in September, and once a quarter thereafter. Please check the website and use the guidelines to adhere to minimum requirements. The IMB has commenced the inspection of projects for compliance with their Department of Health licence or IMB authorisation. Such compliance inspections may be announced or unannounced. There are certain practices that are exempt from the scope of the Dir 10/63/EU and S.I.No 543 of 2012. These include practices undertaken with the primary intention of identifying animals or using recognized animal husbandry practices such as: single housing of males in order to minimise aggression, vaginal swabbing of mice and dogs to determine stage of oestrus and optimum time for mating, routine vaccinations of domestic animals, worming and dietary manipulation in order to meet particular requirements. When situations or practices are not clear applicants can request an opinion from the IMB on the classification of their study prior to submitting a full application for project authorisation.
